Thailand is still the top travel destination in South-East Asia, where countless tourists spend their holidays every year. The surrounding countries have been becoming more and more interesting in terms of tourism for years, especially Laos and Cambodia are investing in infrastructure. For me personally, Thailand is still the measure of all things. In addition to the jungle-like north, dream islands such as Koh Samui, Koh Lanta and of course Koh Phangan await in the south. Those who like pulsating metropolises are in good hands in Bangkok. Big city fever is all the rage here and the capital is also the focal point in Thailand. Especially for vacationers, this is usually the start and end of their trip.

There are also airports on Koh Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai. However, these are not designed for larger international flights to Europe or the USA. So if you want to go to Koh Samui, you almost always have to make a stop in Bangkok. Here it is a good idea to spend a few days in the big city, because there is a lot to discover. Backpackers still often prefer Khao San Road, where something is offered 24 hours a day. A party atmosphere is the order of the day here.

Who already several times in the Khao San Road should try to visit the street at different times. The street changes face at any time of the day.

How and where in the south of Thailand?

The south leaves nothing to be desired and is also one of the best travel destinations in Asia for me. Next to Koh Phangan, Koh Tao is a personal favorite. The change in tourism cannot be overlooked here either. A few years ago the island was still almost an insider tip, the place Mae Had small and clearly arranged. Meanwhile, all hotels are busy building new diving schools and the island is considered Thailand's hot spot when it comes to diving and snorkeling. By the way, Koh Phangan is still underestimated here, there is more than one good one here too diving school and the drive to some of the top diving spots is even a little shorter!

Island panic?Koh Tao beaches

Koh Tao is a comparably small island. Although it offers everything for a vacation, it is recommended by Thailand island hopping with offer Thailand.com travel from island to island. Nothing easier than that! Speedboats run daily from Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. The best known is Lomprayah. The journey takes between 45 minutes and 2 hours. (To the ferry between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan)

My personal recommendation:

My personal recommendation for a 3-week vacation in the south of Thailand is:

Chaweng Beach Koh SamuiStart in Frankfurt with a direct flight to Bangkok, for example with Lufthansa or Thai Airways and then by Stopover directly further south to Koh Samui with Bangkok Airways. As a little tip: there are cool ones here Thailand Travel with Thailand Travel Professionals. When you arrive, you go directly to Koh Tao by speedboat for 5 days for diving, snorkeling and relaxing. Then to Koh Phangan for 3 - 5 days. Go to one of the parties, it's a great experience for all ages. The Full Moon Party I can only recommend fans of big events. For example, if you want something more comfortable, you can visit the Sramanora Waterfall Party In good hands. Here, too, there is loud party music like on the Fullmoon, but the party takes place in the jungle and is smaller. Of course, the typical beach vacation is still missing to complete the vacation. A trip to Koh Samui can be worthwhile, especially if a little shopping is on the itinerary. Chaweng or Lamai Beach, where there are countless hotels, restaurants and bars, are particularly popular. There are no limits in the price category. In addition to absolute luxury hotels, you will also find cheaper hotels. If you haven't had enough of the party fever on Koh Phangan, the nightlife in Chaweng has something for everyone. If you like it a little quieter, you should choose another beach on Samui or spend the rest of the trip in the north of Koh Phangan, because there are beautiful and quiet here beaches!

Before heading home, a 3-4 day detour to Bangkok for shopping, city fever and various points of interest & sights... you will never forget this vacation!
